It would usually be an exaggeration to call a handbag a classic right off the launch but that’s exactly what the Chanel Boy Bag was when it was first debuted in spring 2012. The Boy has since become another jewel in the brand’s famous flaps crown, using a similar formula inherent to its originals: versatile flap shoulder bag structure + distinctive lock = absolute magic.
The debut of Chanel boy was masterly planned; young shoppers had taken a strong interest in the brand, but most of its signature bags resonated more with the older patrons dovetailing more with their more formal wardrobes and personal styles. The Boy, with its more casual feel and array of seasonal iterations, was the perfect design to bridge the gap while staying true to the classic Chanel design elements.
Oh, and there’s the fun fact before we dive in to the sizes, prices and views: the Boy was named after Boy Capel, the love of Coco Chanel’s life ( if you’d like to learn more of Coco Chanel’s life, check out our legacy series on IG ).
